Valentine’s Day was originally celebrated to honor Juno, the goddess of gods and marriage. Now Valentine’s Day is celebrated to honor, Saint Valentine. In the third century, Emperor Claudius III canceled all marriages and engagements due to a lack of soldiers. Saint Valentine began secretly marrying couples. However, word spread about his good deed, and he was sentenced to death on February 14. Legend says before his death Saint Valentine sent a goodbye letter to the jailer’s daughter and signed it, “From Your Valentine.” Today, Valentine’s Day celebrates Saint Valentine, as well as love and kindness.
