How Does the Media Effect You?

Every 5 seconds, 124,400,000 phones ring around the United States. Forty-five percent of those rings are incoming phone calls. Thirty Five percent of those are text messages. Twenty percent of them are notifications, alerts and others. The average teen uses their smartphone throughout the entire day. Is this good?

Studies show that 67 percent of the U.S. population of kidsa yes 11-18 check their phone at least 67 times A DAY! This lowers their attention span, and ability to communicate with others.

A California school district removed cell phone use due to students not paying attention to the lesson and only their smart phones. Students at this district explain why they love their phone and social media so much. “Its fun. If I didn’t have my phone with me all the time, I have no idea what I would do when I’m bored.” Alexis, Seventh Grade.

Another series of studies show that constantly using media and technology lowers your patience. The new iPhone 5S is now ‘higher speed internet that ever before’. With the phones’ high speed and no waiting time, we expect everything to be that fast, thus lowering patience.

Most U.S. population spends 7 hours of their day on their cell phone. With the multitasking ability such as listening to two hours worth of music, checking your Facebook account and searching for a school paper all at once. By multitastking abilities people are able to pack eleven hours worth of media into seven hours.
