San Antonio Police Robert Deckard Dies of Gun Shot
By: Jenna Kurburski
The sound of police helicopters circle above the trees at Mission Burial Park for San Antonio police officer Robert Deckard. Family, friends, and most of the SAPD gather in memorial of his death.
On December 8th, 2013, Deckard was pierced in the head with a shining bullet by two armed robbery suspects Shawn Ruiz Puente and Jenevieve Ramos. They had been involved in a rash of robberies and are now in jail and under murder charges.
The day he was shot, he wasn’t on schedule to work that day, but once he saw the two suspects in the car they spray painted, he chased after them. The chase spanned three counties and got to 100 mph. As the suspects raced south on Interstate 37 into Atascosa county, one of them fired and the bullet went through the windshield and pierced Deckard in the forehead. They also shot at a Poth police officer and he shot back. No one else was shot though.
