The Fullmetal Chronicles: Welcome to Liore! Pt.1:Enter Roy Mustang

“Hey! I can see it! there it is!!” Alphonse cried excitedly to his brother,Edward Elric,who had collapsed onto the sand in exhaustion from carrying their dehydrated 10 1/2 year old sister,Reiz Elric.” What?! what do you see?” Edward asked,picking himself and his sister up off the blazing hot sand. “Liore!! Come on brother, get up! We need to get Reiz some more water!” Alphonse shouted as he dragged a pouting, muttering Ed across the sand, and carried an unconscious and still breathing Reiz through the hot dessert like she was made of glass.” Hang on Reiz, we’re almost there.” Alphonse whispered, which Reiz stirred in response.
As soon as they set foot in Liore, they were offered everything under the sun from street vendors and were whisper and glared at by others.”Excuse me ma’am,” Alphonse asked a girl who was picking out some screws from a street vendor,”Do you,by any chance know a blond girl named-“The girl turned around,”WINRY!?!?” Alphonse exclaimed.”Al? is that really you?What happened to Reiz? Where- where’s Ed?” Winry asked astonished that the Elric siblings had come back to Liore. After their attempt to bring there mother back had failed and Ed had recovered from his Automail surgery, Edward and Alphonse had burned down their house. Afterwards, they went to retrieve their baby sister who fought relentlessly to stay with Winry Rockbell, a long time family friend who had grown up with Ed,Al, and Reiz. She, also, secretly favored Reiz over the two brothers.” Uhhh…Mmm…” Alphonse looked around nervously for Edward, who is nowhere to be found. A few minutes later, Ed came up behind Winry without knowing it was her, and handed Al a glass of water,” This was the coldest and biggest glass they had. Sorry for running off without telling you about it. I-” He stopped suddenly when Winry turned around and dropped the water.” Winry? Is it really you?” He whispered astonished. Winry responded with a whimper and hugged Ed as hard as she could and cried a little.” Winry, how far away is your house? Reiz collapsed from Dehydration a few hours ago and Ed just dropped the first glass of water we’ve seen in days so we need to get Reiz to wake up before she stops breathing completely! She hasn’t moved in over 3 hours and her breathing is very shallow!” Al explained quickly. Ed’s eyes dilated in fear.” What?” Ed whispered,but his voice growing louder “Why didn’t you tell me she had collapsed from dehydration?! I could have used alchemy to make a waterhole!!” Winry turned to the brothers,” My house is too far, but I can take you to General Mustangs’ house.” Ed and Al nodded” Whichever is closer will do” Al said solemnly.
They ran as fast as they could to General Roy Mustang’s house.Roy Mustang is a State Alchemist, officer in the AmestrianState Military, a hero of the Ishval Civil War and Edward’s superior officer because he convinced Ed at an early age to take the state Alchemist test that led to him becoming the youngest person in Alchemy history to pass with flying colors and earned him the title the FullMetal Alchemist. Colonel Mustang is a remarkably talented commander who plans to become the next Führer of AmestrisState Military. With his dark, piercing eyes and clean-shaven, baby-faced complexion, and topped off with dark hair worn casually unkempt, falling over his eyes, he looks nothing like the Elric siblings, with their Father blond, Mother Brunet, and children being a mixture of both, but Reiz treats Roy like he were her father and had known him all her life.
As Alphonse was racing up the hill with Reiz still in her arms, she had a flashback.
When they left Liore to find their Father, it just about destroyed Reiz’s little heart to say goodbye to him.When the brothers passed by Roy’s house, Reiz took off as fast as her little legs could carry her, banging on his door as Edward and Alphonse made their way up to Roy’s door. After 2 minutes of relentless banging on his door, he finally opened it and Reiz threw herself into his arms, broke down and cried hysterically. After bringing her inside and calming her down, he listened to her story and brought her back outside where her brothers waited on his doorstep, told them to wait just a minute more while he goes to retrieve something from his room, and came back with something enclosed in his hand. In his hand was a little locket with 3 little pictures. One of him and Winry smiling in separate frames and Winrys’ dog, Chooki, her childhood companion that was more of Reiz’s dog than Winry’s, with his tongue stuck out. Roy walked behind her, put the locket around her neck and said“A lesson without pain is meaningless, you cannot gain anything without sacrificing something else in return either. But once you have overcome it and made it your own…you will gain an irreplaceable fullmetal heart, and here’s yours. The next time I see you, I want you to live up to your fullmetal heart. If you can do that for me, than I’ll make it into a real badge or rank in the AmestrianState Military, but you have to be brave and keep your brothers in check… especially Ed over there. They need you Re, and I need you to keep your head if something goes wrong or doesn’t go your way. Do you understand Lieutenant Reiz?” Reiz looked up at him with tears on the border of her eyes, but with a fiercely determined expression on her face, she nodded,”Yes sir,Colonel Mustang,I do,” Roy stood up from his crouched position, and saluted her and said” You have your orders, I hope you will carry out your duties correctly and to the fullest of your abilities, is that correct?” she saluted him back and shouted”Sir!” with which he replied,”I have taught you well Lieutenant. Dismissed.” Reiz hugged him one last time and ran after her brothers.
That was 5 1/2 years ago. She never took that necklace off for even a second since that day as a symbol of her hope to see Roy, and Chooki someday again.
Racing up to that familiar doorstep as hard as they could was Alphonse carrying Reiz as gently as he could and as quickly as he could with an exhausted Edward at his heals and Reiz’s necklace swaying with each step. Luckily, Roy saw them outside as he passed by his window and rushed to the door to open it.
Gasping and out of breath, Edward explained the situation with Reiz,propped her up on the porch step and splashed ice cold water on her face. Coughing, Reiz opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was Roy’s face as he was kneeling over her. Overjoyed, she jumped up and enveloped him in a bear hug and started to cry. Roy picked her up, held her tight and whispered” Welcome back Lieutenant Reiz, I’ve been expecting you for a long time.”
