U.S. Marine Loses Both Legs

Alex Del Rio , was in the United States Marine Core. He was in the special intelligence operations. On May 25, 2006, he suffered a very severe accident in Zaidon, Iraq at 5:32 p.m. His Humvee was directly on top of a wired bomb. The humvee flipped over onto Del Rio’s left leg and amputated it. He was picked up and rushed to the Bethesda Hospital in Landstuni, Germany. Del Rio was well taken care of there, but was given the wrong type of blood. With the blood he was given it had admittedly when into all his veins and affected his right leg, to the point where he had to lose it. He was then being hospitalized , he then went into a coma while he was being transford to SAMMC Hospital here in San Antonio, Texas. He was being well taken care of by the nurses he had also while his mom was a RN nurse she made sure everything was right. When he had awaken from his coma he kept on asking “where is Alexis is she OK”. Later on that day he saw his daughter and she was being very helpful but, her mom didn’t let her stay with him. A month later he saw his daughter on the weekends. She would go with him to his therapy at Fort Sam Base. There he was learning how to walk all over again but he was struggling at first. His goal was trying to do what he did before his life changed. “With the confidence from my family, I push my self to do everything like before I was injured.”
