Alison Fowler, 7th Grade Dancer

Alison Fowler,  a seventh grade Bradley student is a dancer. I recently got the chance to interview, and learn a little more about her, and what it’s like to be a dancer.

Alison has been a dancer for nine years. The types of dances she does are, tap, ballet , jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical. She also says that she would like  to do more modern dance in the future. Alison says she started dance because, “My mom entered me and my sister when we were little, since she was the colonel of the dance team in high school. “Being a dancer takes hard work and dedication, especially when you’re competing in a competition and Alison says that, “I get nervous all the time. I usually go over the dance (marking it), and talk to my teacher and the students in my class to make sure I know the dance well.”

Dancing is a incredible skill to have, but it’s not always easy. I asked Alison what the hardest dance move was to learn for her, and she responded saying, ” Probably a wing, which is a tap move – I still have trouble with them sometimes.” She also says that she doesn’t want to be a professional dancer, but she does want to teach dance classes at a dance studio.

Because dance has a lot to do with individuality, everyone has there own memorable dancing moments. Alison’s was the first time she had a solo at the first competition of the season, and she got 6th overall. She also told me that she would like to do the Nutcracker when she’s older, and that her favorite competition has been LADM ( LA Dance Magic). The very last question I asked her was why dance was important to her. She answered saying, ” Dance lets me express myself through movement. I’ve been doing it for so long, imagining myself not doing it is impossible. I’ve made some of my closest friends in dance. Dance has molded me into the person I am today. “Overall, I learned that being a dancer takes a lot of commitment and hard work and is a great talent to have.
