Why Doesn’t Bradley Have a Soccer Team?
Bradley has many different sports, but it is missing one major sport: soccer. There are quite a few reasons why Bradley should have a soccer team, and it leads me to wonder why we don’t already have one. Obviously, there are a few disadvantages, such as budget and coaching, but the benefits definitely outweigh potential disadvantages. A few of the reasons why it should be included as a sport at Bradley are it’s a popular sport, it is less dangerous than football, and it would allow a greater variety of people to participate.
It is quite clear that it is popular. Soccer one of the top five most popular sports in the US, and the most popular sport worldwide. Even with it being such a well known sport, Bradley still has not chosen to include it as any of their major sports, where it should be, or even any of the minor sports. With soccer being such a popular sport, it makes no sense that Bradley doesn’t have it. If they want more people to be physically active, they should include the more desirable sports.
Football is the dominant sport at Bradley, but soccer is more safe. Football has been proven to cause definite injuries. Football is ramming people’s bodies into each other, while soccer has much less physical contact. The reason why football has so much protective equipment is the great danger of the sport. Soccer doesn’t have as much protective equipment because it doesn’t need as much. Soccer is a much safer sport in every way, and safer sports are better for people overall. The school’s goal is to have a safer environment, and if people played soccer instead of football, they would be much more safe.
There are also people who don’t like football or volleyball, but might participate in soccer if it was an available option. Not everyone has the inclination for football and volleyball, and there is a good chance that the addition of soccer might attract more people to athletics. I know if Bradley had soccer as a choice, I would definitely participate in it, whether it would be a major sport in athletics and practices, or a minor sport after school in practices. A big advantage is that we could have a boys and a girls team, unlike some of the sports here at Bradley.
