The Holiday Trio

Last week the Bush Music Department held their annual Holiday concert in the gym performing in front of over 500 guests. Each group was highlighted by performing a holiday classic. A Quick Recap: Bush Musicians Deliver at U.I.L.

By Reeda Virani – Over the past couple of weeks, band, choir, and orchestra have all completed their UIL seasons which they have been preparing for all year long. UIL, or University Interscholastic League, is the music department’s most important competition of the year and groups are ranked from a one, which is the best, to a five, which is the worst on their performance. Groups are judged by three judges in two categories, performance and sight-reading. They are given brand new music which they have never seen and are to perform it in a certain amount of time. The best score a group can receive is sweepstakes, which means receiving perfect scores in all categories. All of Bush’s musical groups did outstanding. Both Symphonic and Honors bands got straight ones and sweepstakes. All choirs, which include the Boys choir, 7th grade girls, 8th grade girls, and the Mixed choir, received all ones and sweepstakes as well. Symphony and Honors orchestras received straight ones and sweepstakes. Our music groups did phenomenal and we are so proud of them!
