Students Prepare to Share Their Talent

Solo and Ensemble provides a good source of feedback for musical students

Solo and Ensemble will be taking place on Friday, Feb. 25 for students to perform in front of judges who will critique their act. The deadline for the $31 to enter was Monday, Feb. 23.

“It’s a really good opportunity to receive one-on-one feedback from someone other than their teacher,” Assistant Choir Director and AP Music Theory Teacher Bonnie Smith said. “If they practice well and put forth effort, they will be successful.”

Students’ performances will be scored with a 1 being the highest and a 5 being the lowest grade. This event is only for students in band, orchestra, or choir.

“[I am] very excited,” junior Blaze Bauer said. “It [Solo and Ensemble] teaches you that a single voice sometimes is more powerful than a whole choir, when in that room as an orchestra kid, Solo and Ensemble is one of the scariest but most memorable things in the world.”

Solo and Ensemble will not extend past 5 p.m. Teachers urge students to try it.

“We are all on our own journey, so try something every day that scares you,” Smith said. “There are lots of professional singers who started out like you.” By Julia Lucas
