Titus Andronicus

On Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 4:30 and 7:00PM, the Churchill Theatre Department will have their opening night of the Shakespeare play Titus Andronicus. Although the Theatre Department has done many Shakespeare plays, this is their first attempt at a more sinister drama.

“Even if it’s pretty violent, I hope people still enjoy it,” Senior Carter Cabral said. “We’ve had a lot of fun putting this play together.”

They will also have shows on Thursday, Nov.8th at 4:30 and 7:30, and Monday, Nov.12 at 7:00PM.

Infinity War

A week ago Avengers Infinity war hit theaters with a bang. It is the 19th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the third Avengers movie over all. In this new movie the earth’s mightiest heroes are battling one of Marvels worst villains…Thanos. Avengers Infinity War has been highly anticipated for years and left millions of fans shocked. Many people had various strong feelings when this movie came out because many considered it the beginning of the end of an era. When these movies started coming out most kids attending Churchill were in elementary school.
While walking into the theater Junior Josh Smetzer said “I felt fear as a child reading the comics and how unpredictable the MCU is. I could feel something insane and unusual was about to occur.”
While walking out of the theater Smetzer went on to say “I felt like my heart was in my stomach” Josh felt that he could not say much more because of the recent hashtag that has gone around saying “#ThanosDemandsYourSilence” this hashtag was made to keep people from spoiling the movie for other fans.
Due to the fact that this movie has been in the making for 10 years, I asked Josh how he thinks seven year old him would react to the movie to which he replied “I’ve been [apart of the MCU fan base] since the First Iron Man movie came out, and after all this time, everything has lead up to this, and you really have an emotional connection with all the characters that I don’t think a younger crowd would understand.”
Avengers Infinity War is in theaters and is only the beginning of the end with more movies on the way.

Spotlight for the Seniors

Upperclassmen get an opportunity to direct their very own shows

Senior directed shows will begin on Monday, May 15 with a play directed by Gabriella Baldassari performing at 4:30 p.m. and a play directed by Christian Gonzalez at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, May 16, the play directed by Gonzalez will perform at 4:30 p.m. and a play directed by Sky Young will perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 will include the play directed by Young at 4:30 p.m. and the play directed by Baldassari at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, the play directed by Gonzalez will perform at 4:30 p.m. and the play directed by Baldassari will perform at 6:30 p.m. The final show will be the play directed by Young at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19. All shows will perform in the Black Box Theatre and will cost $5. Snacks will be sold by the booster club at the shows.

These shows are one of the first opportunities that seniors get to be the ones in charge.

“It is important, in my opinion, to have the culmination of all the knowledge they’ve accumulated over four years to be able to turn that knowledge around and find a new challenge,” Theater Director Wayde Young said.

Every year, four seniors are allowed to direct a play themselves. This year, only three seniors, Baldassari, Gonzalez, and Young, got the opportunity to pick their own shows, direct them themselves with little help from their teachers, and work with their own casts.

[I’m looking forward to] working with my actors,” Young said. “I expect them to work hard and have fun.”

Senior directs are a lot of responsibility, not only for the cast but for the directors themselves.

“My show has a lot of technical aspects in it that I am still trying to figure out, so I am a little nervous about trying to see what will work in the space we have,” Baldassari said. By Heather Cullen

Harry Styles Puts Out a Mysterious Video

Harry Styles, a former member of One Direction, released a mysterious video of him walking through smoke into the light with the date Friday, April 7 popping up at the end. Many sources like Billboard speculate that Styles will release his first single on this date.

This 30-second advertisement put fans in a frenzy when it was aired in the U.K. starting on Saturday, March 25.

“Harry’s video might be a reference of new beginnings because he is starting fresh after One Direction announced its separation,” junior Briana Vig said. “I’m very excited because I want to see all of his hard work pay off, see all what he’s accomplished, and what he is going to accomplish in the future.” By Mia Robinson
