The Go-Getters College Club is in its 5th year of providing students with early college awareness. Mrs. Diaz, Mr. Valle, and Ms. Cue are the sponsors. Every year, students apply to join. They complete an application and write a short essay. The first 50 applicants who turn in their completed application with all information by the deadline of Thursday, Sept. 27 at 4 pm are accepted. All students in all grades are invited to the first meeting where students learn about the club and pick up an application to join. Students are able to purchase a club shirt to show their pride and wear on Fridays with jeans as an approved college shirt. Requirements include attending all meetings and passing all classes in order to attend a university field trip during the school year. Our students have had some excellent field trips in the past including Texas Lutheran University, St. Mary’s, OLLU, and UTSA. Since the club only meets one time per month, attendance is very important! Students already involved in various extracurricular activities should assure they will be able to attend meetings. Students meet one Friday per month, 1 hour after school and listen to career and college guest speakers, do fun college activities, complete one community service project and enjoy awards for perfect attendance and outstanding participation at the end of the year meeting in May.
This is a great way for students to make new friends and get informed about higher education opportunities.
Meeting are from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the library and the dates for the year are:
March – No meeting (usually take field trip this month)
