Nature’s Fury

You’ve probably heard about a giant hurricane that pummeled the East Coast with heavy rain, wind, and even snow; leaving mass destruction in its path. It’s called Hurricane Sandy. Although the name “Sandy” doesn’t seem so scary, the damage it left behind is another story. Hurricane Sandy reached category 2 status at its peak intensity.  A recent poll says that there has been 193 confirmed fatalities, and 22 people missing throughout the U.S, Haiti, Cuba, Bahamas, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Many cities like New York have been left devastated. Millions of people have been left without power and their houses have been reduced to rubble.  Organizations such as FEMA, and the Red Cross have stepped up to help these families, and provide them with food, water, and shelter.

Many people have waited for this moment a long time but it’s finally here. Thanksgiving break is a time of the year to get together with your family and have a nice dinner. Kierra Dabney says she will have a traditional dinner and claims it will be exciting and would have friends and family visiting her. Also, Miyara Jennings says she and her mother would be spending Thanksgiving in her mom’s boyfriend’s house. She also claims it would be a dance party with their friends and family and that they would be having delicious turkey for dinner.

This message goes out to all the students and faculty in Garner Middle School to have a “Great Thanksgiving Week!”
