Mr. Sellers

By Alexis

I had the opportunity to interview one of the assistant principals Mr. Sellers. He’s been working at Garner for 4 years. He also worked at Jackson Middle School for two years and Nimitz Middle School for two. He was a math teacher for 8th and 7th grades. His best time is his involvement and making connections with the whole school. Mr. Sellers’ only complaint is that it takes time away from his family. He wants the students at Garner to do what is necessary for them to succeed in school. He wants the teachers to provide an engaging learning environment. His favorite day is when he gets to go in the classrooms and see what the teachers and students are doing. He wishes Garner students knew that it’s his hope that they are succeful in school, his hair hasn’t always been grey and he’s not as old as he looks. Say, “hi” to him whenever you can because he is in the hallways wanting the best for you.

Veterans Day

What is Veterans day? Why do we even include Veterans Day in our lives? It is a time to honor our current heroes who fight for our freedom. It is only fair that we honor the people who fight for us. November 11, 2015 we will have our annual Veterans Day assembly that will recognize our veterans in the community. Harry Wurzbach will be lined with the NJHS students holding American flags in the morning. Orchestra has prepared pieces to play. Our choir will be singing appropriate celebratory songs. Mr. Sellers, our assistant principal, will be speaking about the significance of this day. We hope to have parents and loved ones attend the assembly, especially veterans in our community.

Veterans Day was created after World War 1 ended. In November 1919, President Wilson declared November 11th as Veterans Day. Today, Veterans Day is a day for us to recognize the veterans in the community. November 11th became a legal national holiday in 1938. After World War 2, Veterans Day was for all veterans in a war.
What can we do to recognize the people who fought for our freedom? Why do people forget the significance of this day and take for granted someone else’s sacrifice? Why can people not see that our freedom today is a liberty we have because someone else fought for it? We should support our veterans by thanking them for their service. Thank you to all our Veterans in the community, and school.

Sock Day – Red Ribbon Week

By Luke

October 20, 2015 is the first day of Red Ribbon Week. Today at Garner Middle School the students  were allowed to wear crazy socks,  which is anything in your imagination. Today I walked around Garner and got to see the fun socks that the students where wearing. They are down at the bottom so I can show you the fun!

Although Red Ribbon week is happy for some, it is also to remember DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, who stood up against the destruction of drugs and was killed in the line of duty. Around the world, people wear red ribbons to honor him and his heroism. National Family Partnership was the first to sponsor the first Red Ribbon Week.

Some people think of drugs on red ribbon week but other people like me also think it is a time to remember the family members that have had the battle for cancer. Many drugs cause cancer and other disease so that is why we must stand up to drugs. We thank Enrique Camarena for his stance and what he did for the world and to stop drugs.
