Veterans Day

What is Veterans day? Why do we even include Veterans Day in our lives? It is a time to honor our current heroes who fight for our freedom. It is only fair that we honor the people who fight for us. November 11, 2015 we will have our annual Veterans Day assembly that will recognize our veterans in the community. Harry Wurzbach will be lined with the NJHS students holding American flags in the morning. Orchestra has prepared pieces to play. Our choir will be singing appropriate celebratory songs. Mr. Sellers, our assistant principal, will be speaking about the significance of this day. We hope to have parents and loved ones attend the assembly, especially veterans in our community.

Veterans Day was created after World War 1 ended. In November 1919, President Wilson declared November 11th as Veterans Day. Today, Veterans Day is a day for us to recognize the veterans in the community. November 11th became a legal national holiday in 1938. After World War 2, Veterans Day was for all veterans in a war.
What can we do to recognize the people who fought for our freedom? Why do people forget the significance of this day and take for granted someone else’s sacrifice? Why can people not see that our freedom today is a liberty we have because someone else fought for it? We should support our veterans by thanking them for their service. Thank you to all our Veterans in the community, and school.
