Hades

Hades is the God of the underworld and the oldest son of Cronus and Rhea. After Hades and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon defeated their father and the other titans to gain power over the “Cosmos”, the brothers drew lots. Hades drew the worst lot becoming god of the underworld. He kidnapped Persephone, daughter of Demeter, Hades sister. Hades forced Persephone to marry him and fed her a pomegranate which caused her to be stuck in the underworld for a third of the year. He has a 3 headed dog called Cerberus. Cerberus guarded the underworld. He kept the dead from escaping and the living from entering. Cerberus father was a fire breathing dragon who was married to a half woman half serpent. Their names were Typhon and Echidna. They were both feared by the gods on Mt. Olympus. Cerberus was very friendly to the dead and new spirits entering Hades, the underworld. Although he ate anyone who tried passing him to enter the land of the living once more.

Veterans Day

What is Veterans day? Why do we even include Veterans Day in our lives? It is a time to honor our current heroes who fight for our freedom. It is only fair that we honor the people who fight for us. November 11, 2015 we will have our annual Veterans Day assembly that will recognize our veterans in the community. Harry Wurzbach will be lined with the NJHS students holding American flags in the morning. Orchestra has prepared pieces to play. Our choir will be singing appropriate celebratory songs. Mr. Sellers, our assistant principal, will be speaking about the significance of this day. We hope to have parents and loved ones attend the assembly, especially veterans in our community.

Veterans Day was created after World War 1 ended. In November 1919, President Wilson declared November 11th as Veterans Day. Today, Veterans Day is a day for us to recognize the veterans in the community. November 11th became a legal national holiday in 1938. After World War 2, Veterans Day was for all veterans in a war.
What can we do to recognize the people who fought for our freedom? Why do people forget the significance of this day and take for granted someone else’s sacrifice? Why can people not see that our freedom today is a liberty we have because someone else fought for it? We should support our veterans by thanking them for their service. Thank you to all our Veterans in the community, and school.

Oh no it’s; SPRING FEVER

Now that spring is here, it’s time for yet another year of Spring Fever. In case you don’t know what spring fever is, it’s basically a month of more sunshine, a lot more people playing outside, and getting more hyped up.
Most people just want to stay inside because they don’t like going outside and just want to play on their games, while most people can’t wait to hit the road and play basketball or something. When asked, have you ever had spring fever Amiyah Ward (6) had exclaimed, “I have been affected because it gets me so excited because I’m in 6th grade.”

Not all people get affected like John Lopez (6) had said, “I haven’t been affected because I really don’t like to go outside.” Well, that’s alright because not all people like to go outside.
Conner Wiley (6) had said, “I’m sort of affected because I like the sunshine and I also like to play basketball outside.”

A lot of people just can’t wait until summer is here like, Noah Paveglio (6) and Tatum Owams (6), they both exclaimed, “I do get excited because it’s only a couple more days until school is out and summer is right around the corner.
It’s ok if you don’t like to go outside and you would rather play your games or something, but one thing for sure spring fever will come every year and only affect some people.
