Sweet Success

The world in general may be afraid of many things. Wars, food shortages, poverty, Sharknado probably, but the scariest is the one we spend our entire life’s preparing for – college.

According to Ken Bain, there are many ways to be successful in college. Bain wrote the book What The Best College Students Should Do. In this book, he mentions strategies that can help you become a better stduent. Regardless of the kind of “thinker” you are, his strategies may make the difference in your school career.

Some of these strategies include “Pursue Passion, Not A’s”. Your grades are important, but you can’t allow grades to control you and stress you out. Don’t get me wrong, grades are important, but you also need to know that you learn a great deal of other life skills that will carry you through into your adult life.

Mr. Tyson provides an interesting thought to grades. “No one ever asks you what your grades were. Grades are irrelevant,” says astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Another point mentioned in the book is “Make a Personal Connection To Your Studies.” What’s the point in going to a big fancy law college if you’re not going to use what you have learned in the real world?

Most of the strategies Bain talks about in his book are great, and I would have to say that I agree with almost everything he suggests. These strategies apply to all in some type of way-  not just college.

I leave you with the wise words of professor Neil deGrasse Tyson.

“Ambition and innovation trump grades every time.”
