This year, one of the strangest coincidences will occur. Thanksgiving and Hanukkah will be on the same day, November 28th. These two events have not happened together since 1888, counting only since Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving. It will be on the eight day of the Jewish Festival of Lights. Many people are calling it “Hanu-giving” or “Thanksgivukkah”.  This is a big thing, with calculations, it is estimated not to happen again for about 79,000 years! This is extremely rare and November 28th, 2013 will definitely be remembered. Not only for this coincidence, but also for all the celebrations and food. For people who follow the Jewish religion, this will be a double celebration with double amounts of food or mixed traditions. This will definitely be a strange December. Generally, Hanukkah and Christmas have a little of an overlap, but this year that will not happen at all. The lunar nature of the Hebrew calendar makes the holiday appear to drift from year to year, like Easter, that’s why this is finally possible.

So if you’re Jewish or not, just celebrate this extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime coincidence. Make sure you and your family are aware of this because you will not see it again.

Happy Thanksgivukkah!
