For parents out there with teenagers, you know how hard it is to raise them. They love you one minute, then scream and disrespect you the next. They used to be so sweet and innocent, but now are doing risky things. Why is that? Well the ruler of the body has a big part on that answer.

The human brain grows and develops just like our bodies do. When you’re a child, your brain is not fully formed. It makes different decisions and has different emotions. When the brain is young, it focuses more on learning  and the 5 senses. When you get in your teenage years, your brain grows more and develops on emotion, language, sports, and music. A psychiatrist, Dr. Jay Giedd , presented  data about the human brain and how it works. He says that the brain forms gray matter all over the parts you use  the most. This process is called “Pruning”. Pruning prevents you from making good decisions, wild mood swings, and taking risky chances.

Hopefully for teens out there you can understand why you’ve been acting more enclosed than you used to be. This can help you understand more about how the brain affects your sense of judgement, but don’t make this reason as an excuse to be rude and disrespectful. Always respect people and don’t be worried that you’ll be trapped with that attitude. Your brain’s only in construction and you won’t be like that forever.
