May Releases

  • 5/14– Robin Hood
  • 5/14– Shrek Forever After
  • 5/27– Sex and the City 2
  • 5/28– Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

The Pride recommends… 5/7- Iron Man 2

After the unexpectedly spectacular blockbuster, Iron Man, back in 2008, which interpreted the origin story of Marvel comic’s fabled superhero, the sequel returns with a bang, and gives Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) a run for his money. New foes such as a Russian inventor (Mickey Rourke) and a rival weapons manufacturer (Sam Rockwell, as well as new allies War Machine (Don Cheadle, replacing Terrence Howard) and a super spy known as Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), all carry the story to new heights.  This follow up is sure to satisfy any long time fans, provide many popcorn worthy moments to frequent movie goers, and prepare audiences for more sequels and new blockbusters coming later this summer.

June Releases:

  • 6/4– Get Him to the Greek
  • 6/4– Killers
  • 6/11- The A-Team
  • 6/18- Toy Story 3
  • 6/18- Jonah Hex
  • 6/25- Grown Ups
  • 6/25- Knight and Day
  • 6/30 – The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse

The Pride recommends… Knight and Day

Yes, June is likely to be the month of Twilight, but Knight and Day is still likely to hit success at the box office. Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in the action movie, which follows a secret agent’s (Cruise) mission, and a mid-western woman (Diaz) who inadvertently gets involved. The story isn’t original, but the 2 super stars plus action are likely to make one of the few non-sequel movies of the summer enjoyable and extremely fun. And being directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 To Yuma) doesn’t hurt either.

July Releases:

  • 7/2- The Last Airbender
  • 7/9- Predators
  • 7/9- Despicable Me
  • 7/16- The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
  • 7/23- Dinner for Schmucks

The Pride Recommends- 7/16- Inception

Little is known about Christopher Nolan’s new psychological thriller, Inception, except that it deals with the concept of dreams. Yet no one is doubting Christopher Nolan’s (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) mystery movie. With mind bending twist and turns, and a lead cast that consists of Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page, Inception is likely to be the single Oscar contender of the summer.

August Releases:

  • 8/13- Scott Pilgrim VS. The World
  • 8/13- The Expendables
  • 8/14- Eat Pray Love
  • 8/20- Takers
  • 8/20- The Switch

The Pride Recommends- 8/6- The Other Guys

If you are looking to end the summer on a lighter note, you can count on The Other Guys. The comedy, directed by Adam McKay (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers), follows Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg on their quest to prove they’re not second choice policemen. With Mark Wahlberg packing the action, and Will Ferrell providing the laughs, this action comedy is likely to leave a goofy smile on your face.
