Johnson athletics will compete in the NEISD Tournament this weekend. Games start Thursday and run through Saturday.

Johnson’s basbeall team brings their 1-0 record to their first tournament of the year. The Jags have only played one game this year; an 8-4 over Boere on Monday night.

“I think so the kids have gotten better, and they’re getting better every day,” said Coach Gessell when asked whether on not his team is up to such a big challenge so early in the season. He then added, “I think that were gonna play really well this tournament.”

Johnson’s softball team will also compete in the NEISD  tournament. They currently have a 4-4 record and are coming off a one-run loss to O’Connor earlier in the week.

“We had a game on Tuesday, and we’re 4-4, so it’s average,” Coach Fox said. “I think that we’re a lot better than that, but we’ve also had some injuries. We also have some adversity. I guess you could say that we’re average, which is good, because we want that now to make us better in the future.”

However, Fox isn’t focused on what the record is today as much as what it will be at the end of the season.

“We dont want to be the best right now,” she said. “We want to be the best at the end of the season.”
