The baseball team is sizing up what could be a historic year in playoffs. Games have never been this close for the team, and if an upcoming game on Friday, April 29th, plays out in Johnson’s favor, their long-sought dream could become reality.

“Once district play has ended, we’ll know when and where play-offs will be,” sophomore Mark Whitehead said. “It’ll depend on how well we play, and also how well our competitors play.”

The fact that this season may be the first time that our baseball team goes to play-offs creates even more reason- and opportunity- for fans to show their support.

“If we win the first round, we’ll probably play a team from Corpus who won state last year,” Whitehead said. “They always bring so many people to each game, so we are definietly going to need the support.”

Along with a spirited fanbase, our team also requires a family environment that has sprung up among the young athletes.

“We all have really great chemisty. We all treat eachother good, and we all work well together, and definitely good enough to get us to play-offs,” Whitehead said.

Throughout the season, the team has seen a number of thrilling comeback wins, exemplifying the boys’ interior fire and desire to push though for the win.

“Beating Reagan 3-2 was for sure one of the highlights of the season.” Whitehead said.

Regardless the final score, this spring has been, and will remain, one to remember.

“We have had so many good times this season,” Whitehead said. “But we are really looking foward to making a run at state and play-offs this season.”
