High hopes for Johnson wrestling

After a very successful season last year, the Johnson wrestling team is working harder than ever to ensure that the upcoming season is just as impressive. The team is already creating a name for themselves. After competing in the Charger classic, against various top teams in South Texas, the Johnson wrestling team took home the first place trophy with 219 points (beating second place Judson by over 70 points).

However, ‘no pain, no gain’ can perfectly describe the team’s hard work and dedication. The team recently lost nine seniors this season, so it is crucial that the current JV players are just as well trained. Some changes can be expected to take place in order to keep the team’s outstanding record, and they are not at all easy.

“We changed style, with more intensive workouts,” senior team captain Ryan Nolan said.

Reagan, being the team’s toughest competition this season, is scheduled to be competing in the Rattler junior varsity and varsity tournaments on Jan. 13 and 14.

As long as the spectacular performance of the team is kept up, winning district-as well as regionals-is not at all too far out of the question.

“As far as district goes, I think we are gonna win; we’re a strong team this year. I also think we will bring more people to regionals,” Nolan said.
