New and undiscovered restaurants sure to please

by Molly Brodhacker | staff writer

There are lots of local eateries in our own backyard that many people never discover due to our tendencies to stick to those “tried and true” favorites we love. Around the Johnson- TPC area are tons of undiscovered gems sure to tickle your taste-buds.

Le Bistro Saigon, one of the many tantalizing new tastes to the area.

Le Bistro Saigon – Vietnamese Cuisine

Honestly, Le Bistro Saigon has to be my new favorite restaurant in the area. Not only is it a walkable distance from Johnson, the food is amazing with very attentive service. Vietnamese food is characterized by fresh spring rolls, spicy soups and pairing various meats with noodles. If you’re not up to try something new and foreign they do have delicious classics like orange and sesame chicken. They make excellent “Pho” or rice noodles, in a variety of dishes.  Beverage wise they make delicious smoothies with Tapioca bubbles floating in them, they certainly are different but super refreshing. The location is very nice, with big airy windows and adequate seating. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the staff makes dining here a wonderful experience. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant, it would be a great place to enjoy your next meal.

I recommend:

Spring rolls as an appetizer ( Tofu and Beef are excellent ), make sure you use the peanut sauce!

Tom Yum Soup is a spicy seafood soup sure to clear your sinuses.

Char-boiled Pork Vermicelli Bowl is my personal favorite, I always get it with a side of peanut sauce as well.

Adobe Cafe – Tex-Mex Cuisine

Many Johnson students have recently found employment in the new restaurant Adobe Cafe, on Evans road. The building is beautiful inside, with great atmosphere throughout. One of the most annoying things when eating out is waiting for your food to arrive as you jealously smell others food. At Adobe, chips and salsa are almost immediately brought out to your table for you to begin munching on. The service is awesome, and chances are that you’ll recognize some faces from school. The restaurant officially opens Sunday 19th after having a few soft openings. As of now Adobe’s hours are 4-10 pm, gradually they will be adding breakfast and lunch, and one can only imagine how great those breakfast tacos will be. By eating at Adobe not only are you supporting a new local business, but also enjoying some bueno Mexican food.

I recommend:

Fried Avacado Appetizer, a fantastic alternative to guacamole.

Shrimp Adobe, one of the house favorites.

Pork Carnitas, probably the most popular dish at Adobe, you can never go wrong with this meal.
