Soccer hangs up cleats ’til next season

Sophomore Nia Stallings and freshman Amber Stearns run up the field during an intense game.

It’s been a long, eventful season for the Lady Jags soccer team. Needless to say much of the school is surprised it’s already over. The team finished their season after earning a number two spot in districts, and playing consistently well all year. The seniors fought hard in their last season, and the underclassmen showed Johnson the bright future it has up ahead. The Lady Jags showed plenty of effort during their game against New Braunfels, but weren’t quite able to pull through. Emotions were down after the game, and it was easy to see that the girls and fans alike were shocked.

“It really stinks, we know we shouldn’t have lost and now there’s nothing we can do about it but keep working and prepare for next year,” junior Shannon Carr said.

It was still a good season however, and the team has plenty to be proud of. Big victories over Reagan and Churchill show that the Jags were a force to be reckoned with this season. They finished with a 12-5-3 record and gave the fans plenty to cheer for.

“Its sad knowing that the season’s over. I’ve made so many memories with my team and its not going to be the same without the seniors here next year,” junior Alyssa Clark said.

While the seniors were huge parts of the team and really led the team to the best of their ability, the juniors know they’re not going to be there next year and that it is their time to step up and become the leaders for the team.

“Its our time, we’re the seniors next year, we’re the ones who the team is going to look to for guidance and we have to be the leaders the seniors were for us this year,” junior Adriana Garcia.

Expectations will be as high as they always are for the Lady Jags, and with so much talent on the team, it’s almost a guarantee that they’ll have another great season.

“We have to get better now. Its the offseason and we’re going to work as hard as we can to make sure we’re the best team we can be for next season,” Carr said.
