The Jags JROTC Air Rifle championships was in Utah during the week of February 16-20. The team gave the max effort and earned a sixth place finish in the nation. Johnson’s very own senior Duncan Pawloski won top marksman in the competition.

“The 10 meter air rifle is an extremely complicated sport because it requires a lot of concentration and determination,” senior Duncan Pawloski said.

Pawloski’s performance was sensational in which he beat out over 2,000 competitors for the top finish. Despite this heroic effort, the Johnson team fell 23 points short of being able to compete in the national championship next month.

“It felt awesome to win. I had one of those moments when the win doesn’t fully hit you right away. Then later it makes you feel awesome and accomplished,” Pawloski said.

Although Duncan had an unbelievable performance, he has his coach, Alan Maitland to thank. Maitland is the Senior Army Instructor for the JROTC program here at Johnson. He has pulled his team through thick and thin in order to get the program where it is today.

“It was an unbelievable feeling when the medal was put over my head at the ceremony. This means a lot to our JROTC program due to the recognition we will receive,” Pawloski said.
