Jags sports looking to finish their seasons on top

Football

The Johnson Jaguars defeated the Roosevelt Roughriders on October 19 and improved their record to 6-1.With this win the Jags kept their district record perfect so far on the season. The team defeated the roughriders by a score of 47-23. Senior Hunter Rittiman led the team with 178 yards passing and two touchdowns while also running for one touchdown. Senior Darion McElhannon led the team in rushing with 144 yards and three touchdowns while senior Devlin Gilligan led the team in receiving with five catches for 98 yards. Next on the schedule for the Jags are their rivals: the undefeated Reagan Rattlers.

Tennis

The Jags opened the area tournament at Blossom Athletic Center on October 18 with a 12-4 victory over number three seeded San Marcos. However, the successful season came to an end on October 19 against number one seeded New Braunfels as the Jags were defeated 12-5. The Johnson tennis team finished the season with a 11-5 (5-1) record and placed second in district.

Volleyball

The Johnson volleyball team is looking to get a signature victory over rival Reagan Rattlers in order to build off their successful season so far and take momentum into the playoffs. The team is currently 25-16(6-3) after a 3-0 victory over district opponent Roosevelt Roughriders. The game against Reagan is on October 23 in the Littleton Gym.

Cross Country

Jags cross country is coming off of a strong showing in the TLU meet where the boys team placed third overall. In addition to this, the girls cross country team placed second. Both the girls teams and the boys teams have been solid so far this season with the boys placing no lower than 18 and the girls placing no lower than 13. Next up for the team is the district meet on October 26.
