How can students return to in-person learning?

Although the Johnson campus is fully phased in, there is still the option for students to come back to campus if they had previously chosen the remote option.

Students and parents can notify us by specific dates that they would like to return to in-person school. We have dates posted in the Jag News every week regarding the notification dates.  The next time is Feb. 3,”  Principal Gary Comalander, said. “This allows teachers to have some consistency with the number of students in-person and having their room set up correctly.”

There are more students staying home and learning virtually after the holiday break

“We are averaging about 1,200 students on campus for in-person instruction currently,” Comalander said.

There are no limits regarding the number of students returning.

“There are no issues with too many returning. We are able to handle every student that wants in-person instruction,” Comalander said.

However, there are specific dates where students can decide to come back. 

“The dates to notify us about returning to in-person instruction are February 3, March 5, and April 16,” Comalander said. “If a student misses a date, they would need to wait until the next date to return.”

Students might wonder whether the class capacity would affect their schedule.

“Currently, there is no capacity for a classroom other than the normal capacity that we would have in a particular classroom. If a specific class was to get full then we would look at possible schedule changes to balance the classrooms,” Comalander said.

Since testing isn’t required for students to come back, they must take safety precautions.

“If someone is not taking the safety rules seriously then they would be moved back to virtual instruction.  The safety of everyone on campus is number one,” Comalander said.
