With a subject line simply stating “Seniors Not Graduating”, an email was sent out on Friday, April 17 in which Mehlbrech reminded seniors that in order to receive a high school diploma, students must uphold a 90% attendance rate according to Texas' Compulsory Attendance Law. In addition, Mehlbrech also requested parent’s help in order to have as many seniors as possible graduate this year.
As the students around her line up at the door and mindlessly explore their Twitter feeds, that five additional minutes of second period is not being used to its full capacity.
Excluding National Honor Society (NHS), there are approximately six honor societies on campus. These include National French Honor Society (NFHS), National Spanish Honor Society (NSHS), National Art Honor Society (NAHS), National Science Honor Society (NSHS), Quill and Scroll: International Honorary Society for high school Journalists, and the newly formed National English Honor Society (NEHS).
This year there are approximately 41 new teachers on campus, including a new counselor and a new administrator. Having graduated from an NEISD high school, Min is one of these new additions to staff, teaching Algebra II and AQR (Advanced Quantified Reasoning).
The textbook turn in date is approaching for the students. Although the official dates start on May 27th it is not too early to begin the turn in process.
Not all students chose to go to college once they graduate. Some students chose to pursue other activities, like Arriago, and wait to go to college, either for financial reasons, to join the military or workforce, or for other, more personal, reasons.
Dual credit is a program available to sophomores through seniors where these students can chose to take certain classes that allow them to be simultaneously enrolled, and earning college credits, at San Antonio College (SAC), while still in high school.
The Johnson PTA has voted to continue funding Project Graduation for the class of 2014, with some stipulations.
