Ask The Drum Majors: Lee Band’s First Competition

Ask the Drum Majors:

Q: Why are there three drum majors?

A: It’s easier for everyone to see and it’s a tradition.

Ana Esparza, junior:

Q: Lee Band will have their first competition of the year this weekend, October 2nd.  How are you feeling about it?

A: I’m definitely more excited than nervous.

Q: What’s the best thing about band?

A: It’s a community, a bunch of fun, and a big family. They all want you to succeed, so we can all march!

Colton Bean, senior:

Q: How would you explain the drum major’s job?

A: To lead the band. Kind of like the captain!

Q: What pieces will you be playing?

A: We will be performing our program entitled Route 66.

Q: Can you name off the section names for us?

A: Flutes, Clarinets, Saxophones, French Horns, Trumpets, Baritones, Tubas, Trombones, Drumline, Colorguard.

Q: What’s the best thing about band?

A: The people you start to get close to over the course of the fall and spring!

Jasmyne Marshall, junior:

Q: What are long bus trips usually like? Crazy? Calm?

A: There are four, one of them for percussion and another for color guard. Ours is like the layers bus, as you get further back, they get more pumped!

Q: What’s the best thing about band?

A: Free football games, free food, and free friends [laughs]
