AVID Visits North Texas Colleges

The Senior overnight field trip. It’s the epitome of all AVID field trips. Seniors have been waiting three binder-lugging, grade-checking, college-researching years for this opportunity-4 colleges in two days.

Here’s some helpful information on the four colleges the students visited: Baylor, University of North Texas, Arlington, and Sam Houston.

Baylor University

Baylor is a private, 4 year college located in Waco, Texas.  Tuition costs $31,000 per year, but financial aid covers half. Admission costs cover new computers, a huge swimming pool (with slide). And there’s an enclosure with actual bears, as in Baylor Bears.

UNT is a public, 4 year college located in Denton, Texas. Tuition costs $8,000 a year, and most of the cost can be covered with financial aid. This school has a good business program and is one of the best music schools in the country. Bus rides are available, and the campus is bike-friendly as well.

UT Arlington is a public, 4 year university in Arlington, Texas. Tuition is $9000 a year, and financial aid covers most of the cost. 70% of applicants are admitted. The school has a focus on business, and is a Division 1 Member of the NCAA. Admission requirements: SAT or ACT scores, rank, GPA, class rigor, and admission essay. Sam Houston is a public, 4 year university in Huntsville, Texas with a high school feel. Tuition is $7, 400 a year, and financial aid or scholarships cover the cost. The school has an excellent, hands on journalism program, utilizing the best of today’s technology.Admission requirements: SAT or ACT, rank, class rigor, GPA, application essay.
