Speech and Debate Team Take 2nd Place Sweepstakes

The Speech and Debate Team competed this past weekend at Brandeis High School.  The team brought home several individual awards and took 2nd place sweepstakes overall.
 “Nichole and I are both ecstatic about this and we are told that this is something that hasn’t happen for Lee in over 20 years,” teacher Justin Tidwell said.
The following students placed in Oral Interp and Debate:
Elise Woods/Noa Barenblat – 1st Place Duet Acting
Chris Heron/Steven Schwope – 2nd Place Duet Acting
Cosmo Albrecht/Jackie Tharp – 6th Place Duet Acting
Noa Barenblat/Kelly Lester – 1st Place Duo Interpretation
Elise Woods – 3rd Place Dramatic Interpretation
Cosmo Albrecht – 3rd Place Poetry
Chris Heron – 4th Place Prose
Kenneth Williams – 1st Place Novice Extemp
Jacelyn Hernandez – 2nd Place Domestic Extemp
Caitlyn Nigro – 6th Place Novice Extemp
Some of the students performed in something called the DX competition, which Jocelyn Hernandez explained.
“DX competition or the Domestic Extemporaneous competition is a place where you have to write a seven minute speech about a domestic topic.” says Jocelyn. “Domestic meaning about the United States, it could be related to foreign policy about other countries, but its mainly about what’s happening in the United States.”
