On Dec. 3, Olivia Steen, a junior at the International School of the Americas, traveled to Washington D.C. where she was honored as the Youth Talk Ambassador for the Bridges of Understanding Foundation.
Hadeel Abu Asaad from the Galilee School in Nazareth, Israel was selected as the Middle Eastern representative. Both Olivia and Hadeel participated in the Global Nomads year-long video conference program which partners U.S. and Middle Eastern schools to encourage cross-cultural dialogue and reflection. Olivia presented her winning video and answered questions about what she has learned through conversations with her Middle Eastern peers.
Other participants in the conference included His Excellency Mohammed Tawfik who serves as Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the U.S.; David Bradley, the Vice President for Studies with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Chairman of the Atlantic Media Company; Ambassador Martin Indyk, the Vice President and Director of Foreign Policy at Brookings Institution; and Sir James and Elaine Wolfensohn.
The conference was hosted by the Meridian Institute, which focuses on global leadership through exchange, dialogue, and cultural diplomacy.
