STEM Successfully Competes

Following a rigorous schedule of research, thirteen STEM Academy students competed in the 2013 Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair at St. Mary’s University on March 4.

Over six hundred regional students competed in 12 different categories ranging from Chemistry to Zoology. At the regional event, each student presented their research and findings to a panel of judges with careers in the student’s field of research.

Awards are given for each of the 12 different categories, as well as over all grand prizes in Health, Biological , and Physical Sciences for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place.

The following STEM students placed in the senior division:

2nd Place in Behavioral and Social Science

American Psychology Association of San Antonio award for Outstanding Science Project


Nathaly Salazar

2nd Place in Microbiology


Bryce Weathers

3rd Place in Computers and Mathematics


Andres Guerra

5th Place in Physics


Students will advance to the State ExxonMobil Science and Engineering Fair on March 26.
