Vols Stunned 31-7

The Lee Volunteers arrived at Dragon Stadium on Friday with determination in their hearts and left shaking their heads.

The Dragons forced four Vols turnovers and forced them to punt  six times as the Southwest Dragons defeated the Lee Volunteers 31-7.

The Vols fell to 2-1 while the Dragon improved to 2-1.

Lee started the game going four and out as they were stopped on fourth and one.The Dragons responded by scoring on a 35-yard touchdown run by Riley Ridge to go up 7-0.

After Lee went 3 and out, the Dragons responded with another quick seven as John Cruz scored on a 3-yard touchdown run, and Southwest went up 14-0 after one.

The scoring spree continued after a 25 yard field goal with Southwest up 17-0.

At this point, Vols quarterback Freedom Salas hit Anthony Green for a 22 yard gain, and then hit Sergio Solis for 28 yards to get the Vols into field goal range.

But in a move that many disagreed with; the Vols did not kick a field goal on 4th and 1 from the 15. Instead, the offense went for it, and Salas pass was intercepted by Cody Johnson in the end zone as the Dragons went into halftime up 17-0.

Players showed their frustration in the locker room as Paris Toler said, “We did not drive all the way down here to get our butts kicked.”

The Vols had only three first-half first downs, and allowed 103 first-half rushing yards.

In the second half, the onslaught only got worse as Cody Johnson gained 40 yards for the Dragons on first and 25 to set up a 5 yard touchdown run from Ryan Danale to put the Dragons up 24-0. Moments later, the Dragons forced a Volunteer fumble and recovered; which led to a Riley Ridge touchdown to put the Dragons up 31-0.

The Vols did avoid the shutout however, as Freedom Salas hit Anthony Green for a 34 yard touchdown to make the score 31-7.

The Vols take on Jefferson at Heros Stadium on Thursday night.
