The Lee High School/STEM FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) group, Team 5572 ROSBOTS, participated in the 2015 FIRST Alamo Regional Event as a first-year team and took home the All-Star Rookie Award. More than 3,500 students participated March 11-14 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
During the qualifications matches each team is paired randomly with another two teams to form an alliance that made it through three rounds. Team 5572 ROSBOTS finished the qualifiers at the 14th spot out of 62.
“Regardless of the final position, our efforts and capabilities were noticed by the bigger and most experienced teams,” said Stefano Rosellini, Lee/STEM FRC Coach. “We were picked by a top finishing team to join their alliance.”
The alliance went through the semifinals and the team qualified for the quarter finals.
“At that point the excitement was off the chart,” said Rosellini. “We were up against veteran teams with 10 to 15 years of experience, and we were holding our own ground!”
The alliance finished third overall.
Team 5572 ROSBOTS received the All-Star Rookie Award and an invitation to the World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri in April. The rookie award recognizes a team for exemplary robotics, team work within the alliances, and mentorship.
The team included David Russell, Wilson Watson, Ryan White, Joshua Fuentes and Matthew Orta along with coaches Stefano Rosellini and Ronnie Pundt.
