8th Grade Visit a Huge Success

Kaitlin Arocho,  Editor-in-Chief

On Wednesday, January 12 the 8th graders from both Nimitz and Jackson Middle Schools made a visit to the LEE campus. They came to watch a pep rally during first and second period, to learn about the electives offered here, and to get a since of what awaits them in high school.

The pep rally had performances from the cheer squad, the Royal Rubies, the band, and the Chinese Culture Club. LEE TV also put together a video to show other electives and clubs like the Japanese club, I Am Second, Culinary Arts, JROTC, and Student2Student.

“Every year we have Nimitz and Jackson 8th grade visits and students then have the opportunity to look at electives that we offer, so when they come their freshman year they have a good idea of what they can sign up for,” said Curriculum AP, Ms. Castaneda.

Monday, January 24, marks the beginning of the course selection window for the 8th graders, as well as all underclassmen already enrolled on the LEE campus, as well as a course fair, held from 6-7:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. There they will have a second opportunity to talk directly to representatives from each organization to get more details about them. AP classes and honors classes will also be in attendance.

These opportunities to prepare for next year are important to many students because it gets them excited about school. “My favorite part was the drum line because I’m in the drum line at Nimitz, so I really liked watching the older kids doing it,” Isabella Duke (8) said.

These events are crucial recruitment opportunities for many groups on campus. Rudy Guevara (12), a member of the marching band, is optimistic that the pep rally performance inspired the middle schoolers. “Fun fact, we had a football game where we brought some of the middle schoolers with us, so they got to see us playing there as well and meet up with them a while ago so I would say that we got some people to join,” Guevara said. “I would tell the 8th graders to enjoy it all, because it will happen so fast.”
