NASCAR stands for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. The sport is technically a league, but motor-sport is just too broad. The sport was founded in February 21, 1948 by William France Sr., as a family operated business to make stock car racing popular in America. The modified series continues today as the Whelen Modified Tour.
