The Biggest Stadium Sport In America

NASCAR stands for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. The sport is technically a league, but motor-sport is just too broad. The sport was founded in February 21, 1948 by William France Sr., as a family operated business to make stock car racing popular in America. Originally, NASCAR had three series; modified, roadster, and strictly stock. William was surprised that very small crowds arrived in roadster races, so he quickly abandoned the series. The modified series continues today as the Whelen Modified Tour.
