Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

The artworks advancing to the advanced level of the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have been chosen. The organization was formed in the 1920s  to honor young adults who dedicated themselves to excellence in visual arts and writing. At the regional level, Say Si ( San Antonio Youth Yes!) sponsors the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for students in grades 7-12 who attend public and private schools in the Bexar county area.

Listed below are the four finalists from Mac Arthur High School.

Reaching- Taylor Rangel (12th Grade)
Sleeping Girl- Marissa Mascorro (10th grade)
Little Bird- Lorena Dubois (11th Grade)
Broken Glasses- Zoe Molina (12th Grade)

Where did the idea for this piece come from?
“I wanted to do something nerdy, so broken glasses seemed acceptable.”

Can you explain the t-shirt you are wearing in the artwork?
“It is from one of my favorite movies Army of Darkness, it is Bruce Cambbell’s S-mart shirt.”

  1. These are some amazing works of art! Zoe Molina is an artistic genius. She sits by me in painting and every time she brings out a new project I’m flabbergasted by how brilliant it is. I am and always will be extremely jealous of this girls artistic abilities.
