The Black Keys

This Grammy award winning blues/rock band formed out of Akron, Ohio in 2001. The duo consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar/vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). They released six studio albums and sold over 1.7 million records. Their most recent album, Brothers , sold 73,000 copies the first week, climbing to number three on the Billboard Albums chart. The Black Keys are for those who enjoy blues rhythm with a distorted touch.

Atmosphere

Sean “Slug” Daley and Anthony “Ant” Davis make up this successful, independent rap group from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They don’t rap about their money or possessions, but rather tell stories and teach lessons. Atmosphere’s beats are mellow, and sometimes they even rap alongside a piano. Since their debut album Overcast! in 1997, four more albums have been released. Their upcoming album, The Family Sign, is scheduled for release on April 12.

Cake

The peculiar band was formed in 1991 by singer/songwriter John McCrea, guitarist Greg Brown, trumpeter and bassist Shon Meckfessel, and drummer Frank French. Today, McCrea is the only original member left. Cake is known for their interesting approach to music with half sung, half spoken play on words and combined musical genres such as rock, ska, funk, and jazz. Their most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, was released on January 11,  and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Moby

Richard Melville Hall, better known as Moby, rose during the electronica era of the 90’s. Americans and the English have enjoyed Moby’s unique DJ style since his self-titled first album, Moby, in 1992.  His newly anticipated album, Destroyed, will be for sale on May 16,  and  as Moby says, “more acoustic and less electronic than before”.
