Farewell to TAKS

Dear TAKS,

Ever since the third grade you have been the bane of my existence; teachers have forced me to learn countless amounts of information just in case it shows up on you. (Boring information nonetheless, that will probably never be useful to me outside the walls of a Texas public school.)

Not only did I learn boring information, I had to stress about the fact that you were the only thing keeping me from moving up to the next grade.

In the end, I passed you and was allowed to move on. Eventually we both made it to high school and with this milestone we incurred some growing pains.

Each year I was required to go into a room with 30 other people, most of whom I had never seen in my life and sit for four hours despite the fact that it only took me two hours. Yet I was still required to sit and wait for the kids who choose to take a nap then hours later woke up, wiped to drool off his face, and continued to take as long as possible to finish one of the easiest tests ever.

In a few days our long time love-hate relationship will come to end. I must say our ending will be bitter-sweet but it’s time for me to move on to bigger and better things, like senior year.  Goodbye.
