1st San Antonio Comic Con

The first Comic Con to hit San Antonio was awesome! Despite having to walk so much and only getting to go saturday, me and my friends had a great time. Whether it was the celebrities, the booths, or the cosplayers, there was something for everyone.

One of my highlights was meeting several celebrities. Lauren Cohan(Maggie) and Steven Yeun(Glenn) from The Walking Dead walked passed me with a conga line of fans following them. I saw Danny Trejo walk out of the bathroom, and later got to meet and take a picture with him. And I got confirmation from the man himself that the Machete and Spy Kids movies are in the same universe, which just blew my mind. I got the autograph of Richard Horvitz, the voice of Zim from Invader Zim, Alpha from Power Rangers, and Kaos in the Skylanders games, which he signed to my brothers who obsess over the games.

Along with some of the original Power Rangers, I got to see plenty of amazing people. One of the funnier moments was seeing that the line to meet Adam West (who played Batman in the classic TV show) was a pretty good sized line, while the line for Burt Ward (who played Robin in the same show) had nobody most of the time I was there.

Conventions usually leave a dent in the wallets of the fans, and I was no exception. I got the Walking Dead Compendium, but didn’t get a chance to have the Walking Dead cast sign it. That is a goal for next year when Daryl(Norman Reedus) will be there. Some nice artwork of the TMNT, and some documentaries on the Friday the 13th and Living Dead series, signed by the director. I did restrain myself though, and it’s easy to see how some people could spend all of their money in just a few hours.

While I only got to go for one day, conventions usually last the weekend, so check out any others that will be coming to San Antonio. Since this Comic Con is now annual, there will be one next year, along with the first San Antonio Wizard World, which is a similar convention. Wizard World will come to downtown next August, with more stars and more memorabilia to spend money on. I hope to see you all there.
