1. Figure Skating

Figure skating is a very under rated sport but the thought of doing all these intense throws flips and spins while on ice being supported by a tiny sliver of metal is incredibly impressive.

2. Anticipation

Watching, waiting on the edge of the seat to see if USA brings home another gold by gaining that one millionth of a second, or one tenth of a point to reach the top of the podium has to be one of the most anticipation filled moments of my week.

3.USA

The olympics is one of the only times were it’s appropriate to chant USA without looking weird. Plus I’ve never seen someone have so much pride in their country until the Olympics roll around.

4.Women’s Rights

Even with blurred lines setting us back a few years Women’s Rights have been furthered with the addition of new events for women including Women’s

ski jump. Another step towards equality among the genders, and it’s great thing to see these fine young women representing their countries.

5. Rivalries v. Peace

Although ironic the Olympics has a way of using rivalries to bring peace together. Even with the added tension of these olympics all the countries have come together, exemplified by Shaun Whites congratulating Russian Born Swedish snowboarder,  Iouri Podladtchikov for taking the gold in the sport known to be held by White himself. The American v. Canadian  women’s hockey  rivalry is another great example of the fun harmless rivalry between to countries.

6.  Back Stories

Watching the events of the Olympics is amazing in itself but even more amazing is the back story of the athletes competing in the games. On top of being all around amazing in the event(s) of their choice they’re are countless examples of heart-wrenching trials keeping them from their Olympic dreams but despite all the obstacles they made it through to represent their country. Even if they did not stand strong in the face of adversity they save puppies or small children in their free time. I thought high school left you with no time to sleep.

7. Obscure Sports

Finally, an amazing thing about the Olympics are all the events that you have never even heard of, yet, people have worked for years to stand on the podium for this very event. Can we just take a moment to reflect on the biathlon or the skiing and shooting one as most people ski long distances and then shoot targets for accuracy.
