Volleyball bounces back from shutout

Handling the Southwest Dragons easily in the first two games, the girls volleyball team struggled in a back-and-forth battle in the third match. Despite dropping a game, the girls went on to take the match 3-1 (games W-L) Fri. in the MacArthur gym.

Great set-ups and skill throughout the whole lineup, routinely rotated by Coach Margaret Mitcham, led the team to victory.

Although the game resulted in victory, Southwest nearly made a comeback. With a 2-1 game lead in the match, the team eventually pulled away in the fourth game in a 25-13 win.

Miscommunication and sometimes confusion appeared as balls were missed and sometimes not even attempted by a player. This small statistic does not pose a huge threat to the team’s game-plan, but it did result in lost point opportunities and back-and-forth scoring that could have been avoided.

“It took me the first 25 games to get a lineup secured,” Coach Mitcham said. “[We need to work on] consistency, not missing so many serves, and getting the hitting percentage up.”

Volleyball now moves to 15-16 (W-L), 0-2 in District, and faces Lee Sept. 24 7:00 p.m at Littleton Gym.
