One of the best things about owning a smartphone is having apps that can assist us, help us communicate, and entertain us. Mobile gaming has evolved from simply playing Snake on a Nokia to having thousands of apps in the Apple Store or on Google Play.

1. Candy Crush Saga

Almost everyone knows about Candy Crush Saga, an addicting and frustrating puzzle game that hit the app store in spring 2012. The developer, King, recently released the sequel to this sugary adventure, Candy Crush Soda Saga, providing new features to the game. It’s a game that appeals to all ages with colorful candy pieces and hundreds of challenging levels. The game is free, however power-ups are available for in game purchase.

 2. Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Mining and crafting gives a new edge of creation in Minecraft: Pocket Edition. The franchise began as a simple game with gradual updates on the PC before gaining popularity and getting onto mobile, and then onto the Xbox store and Playstation. The game allows the player to test their creativity in the creative mode or play survival mode. Creative mode allows the player to build whatever they want with the list of items obtainable in the game, while survival mode focuses on the mining, crafting, and players exploring the environment. The game is $6.99 on Google Play.

3. Trivia Crack 

Trivia Crack is a relatively new game that tests a player’s knowledge in trivia and sets them against other players, whether they’re friends or strangers. The person who ‘crowns’ the 6 topics first wins, if not then whoever has the most crowned character by the time 25 rounds is over, they win. The game has hundreds of questions to test the players and allows submissions for questions. The game is free, however has in app purchases for cheats and extra spins.

4. Five Nights at Freddy’s

Five Nights at Freddy’s got boosted into popularity after a famous YouTuber, Markiplier, posted a video of playing the indie point-and-click horror game that leaves the player to attempt to survive a night and avoid death by animatronic and survive for five nights, hence the name. The game has received many positive reviews as a new take on survival horror games, and was first released onto Steam in August before being released onto android and iOS. he sequel to the game came out on mobile November 15 and is available for purchase on Google Play and Apple Store.

5. Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans is an strategic MMO that leaves the player as the chief of a village who must upgrade their base to defend themselves from other players, and attack others as well. This online game allows for players to band together in clans to wage war on others and receive loot from pillaging other villages. This loot is used to upgrade defenses, troops, and other features of the base to gain higher ranks. The game has millions of players internationally, and is free in the app store, besides purchases for gems that help accomplish tasks faster.
