A 2-0 loss against Boerne Champion at Boerne Champion Jan. 14 handed the team its second loss in the first three games of the season. Two first half goals by the Chargers created a large deficit that the boys could not overcome.

“It’s Champion, they play rough, they play hard, so they play physical,” Coach Damion Simmons said.

Three games into the season, the boys soccer team has not scored a goal yet, disregarding the shootout against Steele. Against Champion they seemed to struggle to control the ball and find a way into the box.

One of the things the team needs to improve on is setting up the ball and opening up goal opportunities, Coach Simmons said.

“We haven’t given up a goal in seven games now in the run of play,” Simmons said. “We’ve got to get better on marking and running our set pieces.”

The team opens up the Smithson Valley Tournament Thur. Jan. 15 against Smithson Valley at Smithson Valley.
