A game of brains

Trying to remember the answer after hitting the buzzer gives the teachers a feeling of anxiety. A game of trivia that pits teachers against each other.

“[The quiz bowl] is an academic competition, which students and faculty members at MacArthur participate in,” senior, Vlad Chalenko said.

The categories in quiz bowl varies from science to sport questions making it more challenging to the competitors trying to win.

“[The quiz bowl] helps you memorize your material more and makes your knowledge more in depth,” Chalenko said, “I’ve learned a lot more about geometry, capitals, and landmarks because it is a very important part of the quiz bowl.”

After going to nationals last year, the quiz bowl team is encouraged to go back and win it all.

“A lot of our seniors are graduating, so next year will be a rebuilding year,” health teacher, Albert Luna said, “We hope to get it back to where we had it last year.”

Like most after school curriculums the quiz bowl is not just educational but fun too.

“The head to head competition [is my favorite part] and just the ability to compete and have fun and be nerdy”, Luna said, “To embrace their nerd.”
