With everyone at home, it’s the perfect time to discover new music. No matter which genre you may pledge allegiance to, it’s always nice to step back and appreciate the music that got us to where we are. In that spirit, why not spice things up during these uncertain times with music that accurately describes our world today, sung by musicians of generations past.

Nowhere To Run – Martha Reeves & The Vandellas

This 1965 classic adds a fun twist to our dire situation. Just like in the song, there really is nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide, from COVID-19. At least we can still dance in our homes to this party staple.

Panic – The Smiths

The ‘panic’ described in this song beautifully mirrors today’s changing society. From the panic buying, to the uncertainty of our future, The Smiths have really put a pin in what our world currently looks like.

Mad World – Tears For Fears

Mad World accurately describes the pain and sorrow that has tormented every single human being on this planet. Everyday feels the same as the last, of which nothing is happening, and the eventual tears that ensue all of us. Out there, it is, indeed, a very very mad world.

How Can I Be Sure – The Rascals

This song shows the importance of having a strong support system during these tremulous times. The world may be changing, but having the right person there to go through it with you can make everything suddenly bearable.

It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) – R.E.M.

R.E.M.’s 1987 masterpiece becomes relevant again and again as major devastation continues to constantly rock our society to its core, and COVID-19 is no exception. SARS-CoV-19, the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19, has ended the world as we know it. However, self-isolation, as described in the song, is key to destroying this silent killer, thus bringing back the world as we knew it.

In My Room – The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys understand that the safest place to be when the world has turned dark is in your room. That’s why it’s important to self-isolate, so you can lock out this world. This kind of security will mitigate fear, even if you are alone, because at least your chances of catching or unknowingly spreading coronavirus is greatly reduced.

These powerful songs are meant to be played loud and proud. Dance to them like no one is watching, because it’s likely no one is watching, if you’re following COVID-19 regulations correctly. Listen to the rest of playlist by clicking the music streaming service links featured.
