On Oct. 5 marching band had a pre-UIL exhibition at Heroes stadium. Six judges critiqued the marching band’s railroad themed performance titled “Fast Track” in order to help them prepare for their future performances. Having come from the same middle schools, students were excited to compete against their old friends.

“I was excited not nervous. I was excited to see the other schools. Most are old friends,” junior Jordan Jacques said.

The seven-minute piece has been rehearsed since before school started and the band continues to add to it. The railroad theme is expressed as the band marches into the shape of a railroad crossing. They also create two turning circles as they represent two trains colliding and turning into one.

In the beginning of the performance the colorguard wore railroad worker outfits and then switched into another outfit representing a railroad as they weaved in with the band, their flags complementing the music.

This coming Saturday Oct. 9 the marching band will perform in Kyle, Texas at 9 p.m.

“I think we’re going to do really well. We worked hard enough,” junior drum major Macey Gan said.
