Junior’s Art Earns Early Scholarships

By Alexandra Gutierrez

Junior Hanna Lee never expected to win scholarships so early, but now that she does she’s happy she took the chance.
During her freshman year, Lee was able to place second and earn a scholarship of $500 and during her sophomore year she won a $10,000 scholarship award from the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.
“I just did what we did in class,” Lee said. “I didn’t expect to win.”
Lee’s sophomore art teacher, Clifton Tinker, encouraged all his students to draw livestock and enter it in the competition. Lee spent a lot of time on her goat, trying to make it perfect, and to her surprise, she placed first.
“They were supposed to pick the top 25 and I was one of them,” Lee added. “I didn’t know it was such a big contest.”
According to teachers, Lee has a rare talent that is only seen from a student once about every 10 years. She works hard and is able to accomplish things that most students can’t.
“There’s no reason she can’t win every year,” Tinker said.
Lee likes that people appreciate and admire her work. She would also like to go through with her art and win more contests. She is enrolled in AP Art-Drawing this year.
